VVA Bags ‘Best Documentary’, Best Narration’ Award at the INTACH – FILM IT INDIA FEST

vvafilmitfestStudents of Vidya Vikas Academy once again won laurels at inter- school competitions. This time it was the INTACH – FILMITINDIA FESTIVAL (Goa Chapter) conducted in the month of December. School- students were asked to produce 2–minute documentary films on any aspect of Goan cultural heritage – traditional occupations, food, customs,etc.

Nikhil Raikar of Class 8 won the Best Documentary Award for his film entitled ‘River Sal Supports Life’. Maxim Manakov of Class 6 was awarded Best Narration for his documentary on the ‘Mahadeva Temple at TambdiSurla’. Dhiti Lotlikar of Class 6 also participated with her production ‘Authentic Goan Cuisine’ highlighting traditional Goandishes like‘kismoor’ and ‘sannas’.

The Award ceremony was held at Sharada Mandir School (ICSE), Panjim on Tuesday, 10th February, 2015. One film from each of the 14 schools which made it to the final selection were screened.

Science Project – Buoyancy Energy Generator

scienceprojectA project developed by Mast. Nikhil Raikar of Class 8C was selected to be displayed at the 4th BharatiyaVigyan Sammelan and Expo. The exhibition was held for four days, from 5th Feb to 8th Feb at Campal Grounds. The expo was inaugurated by Hon’ble Defense Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar. The distinguished invitees for the expo were – Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Shri Y.S Chowdary, Dr Anil Kakodkar, Dr.G Madhavan Nair (former chairman of ISRO), Dr. R A Mashelkar, Dr. M S Valiathan and Dr. Vijay Bhatkar.

It was indeed a privilege to be invited to display the exhibit apparatus along with the professional scientists and innovators. Illustrious Government Institutions, Universities and Colleges displayed their exhibits. Some of them were Fergusson College of Pune, Goa engineering collage, DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organisation), ISRO(Indian Space Research Organization) and many more.

The most fascinating fact was that Mast. Nikhil Raikar was the youngest among all the other who participated in the exhibition. Nikhil got an opportunity to present his apparatus to most of the well-known scientists including Dr.Anil Kakodkar, Dr. Raghunath A Mashelkar ,Mr.Vijay Bhatkar
He also got the opportunity to interact with other participants and get hands on knowledge of Hi-Tech gadgets like brain controlled robotic arm, 3d video gaming glasses , a fully functional robot, a self balancing 2 wheeled robot, DRDO’s defense systems and ISRO’s space technologies.

As a part of the annual excursion, students of Classes 6, 8 and 9 visited the expo which was a very educative and an enriching experience. Tr. Shilpa Sukumaran co-ordinated.
